TOP RESTAURANTS

In Gourmet Travellers Top 100 Restaurants, Queensland managed to get 13 out of the 100. I'm sure that's an improvement from last year. If my bank account can handle it; I’m going to attempt to head to each and every one. I’m familiar with 80% of these restaurants and already know how amazing they are, so I’m keen as mustard for the challenge.
Let me know which you would like to come along to....

I actually did work experience at E’cco Bistro a few years ago. Philip Johnson is such a hospitable and caring gentleman. I wanted to get into food writing while I was at uni. I went to one of his cooking shows at Salt Kingscliff. He not only signed my E’cco Bistro cook book, but listened to my dream of being a part of his media team. Johnson had a regular Tuesday food segment in the Courier Mail at the time and invited me to come to his Bistro to watch the food photographers do there thing. It was a wonderful experience!

175 Eagle St, Brisbane
My partner Brendan and I stumbled across this little gem one sunny Thursday afternoon. I just finished an appointment in town so we decided to walk down to Eagle St Pier for an afternoon drink. We walked into the Alchemy bar area and my jaw dropped, it was so lovely. The timber floors, red sheer curtains and dark timber and leather furniture were so warm and inviting. We sat and had a glass of red each and then another...... Brendan said do you want to stay for dinner? I didn't hesitate with a huge big YES answer. We shared a sashimi swordfish salad with watermelon and edible flowers and horseradish droplets. It had such a fresh flavour and yes it looked as great as it sounds. Our mains were equally as good; Striploin of Beef with Herb Polenta, Creamy Spinach, Smoked Tomato Compote, Red Wine and Bone Marrow Sauce. On top of all this their wine menu was superb; lots of Australian varieties which I like to see. The staff was more than helpful and very knowledgeable. Overall, Alchemy is a wonderful dining experience and I highly recommend it. When booking ask to sit up the front, you can see the Story Bridge reflecting over the water, nice and romantic.
